It’s no secret that Celtic will be looking to sign centre-backs in the summer. Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic are both likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
That leaves only Jozo Simunovic, Kristoffer Ajer and the out-of-favour Jack Hendry as the centre-backs at the club for next season.
Whoever is manager next season will be want to bring in new defenders. One player who could come onto the club’s radar again is Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna.
Had bid turned down
It should be remembered that the Hoops had a bid turned down for the player last August. Celtic decided not to make another bid for the player.
However, that could change should he turn in a match-winning performance for Aberdeen against Celtic on Saturday.
The Hoops head to Pittodrie needing only a draw to win the title against a depleted Aberdeen side.
Will have to hold team together
If McKenna manages to hold together the Aberdeen defence and inspire them to victory, he could well find himself at the top of Celtic’s centre-back shortlist.
However, should Celtic go on to win the game and McKenna doesn’t impress, it is unlikely that the Hoops will make another bid for the player.
Aberdeen will be determined that Celtic do not win the league at Pittodrie. McKenna will have a big role to play in the game and one way or another, Celtic could eventually benefit.
