One of the most interesting aspects of Celtic’s pre-season 6-1 win over SC Pinkafeld was the performance of Jack Aitchison.

The striker came on in the second-half and made a big contribution, providing an assist to Mikey Johnston and also scoring a goal.

Will take plenty of confidence from display

That will give the player plenty of confidence. There is an argument that he should be involved in the Hoops’ next pre-season friendly, against Wiener SC on Saturday.

However, the question that has to be asked is does the player have a future at Celtic? Last season he spent time at two Championship sides on loan, Dunfermline and Alloa.

Of the two loan spells, the most successful was at Alloa, where he scored one goal in 11 games.

Manager will be pleased

That sort of record isn’t good enough to get you a place in the Celtic squad, unfortunately. However, there is no doubt Neil Lennon would have been pleased with Aitchison’s performance.

But, it has to be asked, is he likely to displace the like of Odsonne Edouard or Leigh Griffiths in the Hoops side? At the moment, the answer is ‘no’.

Perhaps Neil Lennon may feel that another loan move will suit the player. It remains to be seen where Aitchison’s future lies. However, he did himself the power of good with his performance against Pinkafeld.
