Over the past decade at Celtic, there have been players that embody the term ‘cult hero’. Paddy McCourt could be considered one, as could Tom Rogic. Hoops left-back Emilio Izaguirre could well be considered one too.

There is another Celtic left-back who could well fit the bill as the fans’ ‘cult hero’ over the next few seasons. That player is the recent signing from Rapid Vienna, Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo.

An all-action player

He has only played two games for the Hoops, but already he has shown that he is going to be an all-action player.

Bolingoli made a big impact in Celtic’s recent 2-1 win over Sarajevo, both good and bad. He was nominally playing as left-back. However, he spent most of the game attacking down the wing, and came close to scoring occasionally.

Will excite fans but could frustrate manager

On the negative side, a bad pass by Bolingoli lead to Sarajevo’s goal on the night. He looks to the type of player that will get fans on their feet, but will frustrate the manager.

It is unlikely that Lennon wanted Bolingoli to constantly attack throughout the game. However, the player did manage to excite the support with his display.

When Bolingoli is on the pitch this season, it looks like there is rarely going to be a dull moment, and the fans will no doubt appreciate that.
