Now that the season is well and truly underway, the Celtic fans will be looking forward to every weekend with more gusto than they did over the summer.
We all miss our weekly intake of football. It’s what we wait for after the end of a hard working week. Waiting for injury news, to see if our favourite player will make the first team and debating who should be chosen to play and who should be dropped.
It’s why we love the game so much. So here is my opinion on the matchday squad selection that awaits Brendan Rodgers this Sunday and why it could be telling for Alexandro Bernabei should he not make the cut.
The Argentinian was left out of the opening day squad for Celtic’s win against Ross County. That decision did surprise many Celtic fans especially after the 22-year-old full-back impressed during pre-season.
Only one defender, Carl Starfelt, made the substitutes bench on Saturday (two if you assume Tomoki would have been utilised as one) and Bernabei was nowhere to be seen.
Neither was Liam Scales. But with the Irishman being heavily tipped to leave the club that is hardly surprising.
But with Bernabei, the general school of thought is that he would play some part for Celtic this season, even if it is only as a backup to Greg Taylor.
So what are we to assume if the Argentinian doesn’t make the cut for the trip to Pittodrie? Is it a sign that he has no future under Rodgers? At this stage of the season, it would be difficult to tell.

But put it this way, now that Rodgers has given everyone a chance to show what they can do in preseason and then all of a sudden as the league business starts and certain players are nowhere to be seen, it doesn’t bode well does it?
I hope Bernabei stays at Celtic. I believe he has something to offer. He is also very popular amongst the travelling Celtic support.
At just 22, he has plenty of time to develop and contribute to the side. But if he is left out again against Aberdeen then it does point to a bleak future at Celtic for the young defender.
