Calvin Miller was one of the many plus points as Celtic got their pre-season campaign off to a good start with a resounding 6-1 victory over SC Pinkafeld.
The Hoops fell behind to the Austrian fourth division side but fought back to record an emphatic opening victory. The majority of the goals may have come in the second-half but that shouldn’t detract from a decent first-half showing too.

A number of the Celtic men who started the match impressed, with the likes of Leigh Griffiths and Ryan Christie making good returns after long-term absences.
However, it was youngster Miller who perhaps caught the eye most often in the opening period.

Miller makes good first impression
The 21-year-old played on the right-wing, perhaps putting to bed the notion that he could be considered a deputy to Kieran Tierney. He tended to operate in the defensive position under Brendan Rodgers however it seems clear that Neil Lennon prefers him more offensively.
The Scottish youth international looked sharp, quick and lively. He tormented the Pinkafeld full-back on numerous occasions and also bagged himself an assist for Griffiths’ goal.

If Miller is going to be playing as a winger then he’ll have plenty of competition for a starting spot. Celtic have about six or seven wide players at the club right now and he wouldn’t be one of the highest rated.
However, more displays like the one in the Austrian sunshine could give Lennon food for thought. It was an impressive start from the man who spent last season on loan at Dundee and then Ayr. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.
