Celtic beat St. Mirren – and that’s all that matters

Anyone who ventured out to a chilly Celtic Park on Wednesday night for the game against St. Mirren may have wish they hadn’t bothered.

The 2-0 victory over the lowly Buddies – who now sit bottom of the Premiership – was largely forgettable. But for a couple of moments in the second-half, most fans would have left the stadium feeling very underwhelmed.

Those are the kind of games that win titles though.

Celtic deserve credit for getting the job done against St. Mirren

Celtic were playing well within themselves in a match that often felt like more of a training exercise than a competitive occasion. St. Mirren applied themselves well in the game but we were never likely to drop points from the minute Mohamed Elyounoussi put us ahead.

It’s stating the obvious to say that we got three points for the win, the same as any other league match so far this season. The 2-0 success at Ibrox in early September earned us the same points tally, as did Sunday’s thumping of Aberdeen.

Of course, those victories will be remembered far more fondly than Wednesday’s win. But as far as the league table is concerned, they’re all equal.

It’s simply another win on our way to nine-in-a-row. Given that it came after a hectic week that saw us beat Lazio and Aberdeen, the team and management should be applauded.
