Celtic manager Neil Lennon recently called for the Scottish FA to apologise for the decision which saw Ryan Christie hit with a three game ban following an incident with Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos.
Lennon wasn’t happy with the decision, claiming to be ‘very angry’ and ‘bewildered’, as reported by the Daily Record. The Celtic boss is hoping that the SFA admit to making a mistake with the ban.
Now that Lennon has asked to be given an apology on the record, the Celtic board should follow suit in asking for one.
Club must back manager’s stance
A statement from the club asking for an explanation about how the SFA came to the decision and an apology for getting the decision would go down well with the majority of Celtic fans, you would imagine.
The statement should also, if necessary, include remarks on Alfredo Morelos not getting cited for a similar incident against Celtic last season. That would also most likely be welcomed by the support.
Celtic are often at their best when the club is rallying together to fight an injustice. That is certainly what Neil Lennon feels has happened. When he uses words like ‘angry’ you know that he isn’t happy with the situation.
Will Celtic get an apology from the SFA? Probably not. However, even if they don’t, an official statement from the club would clear how strongly they feel about the decision.
New statement should be very different from last one
The club’s original statement on the matter didn’t include calls for an apology. This one should, following the Hoops manager’s comments.
When Celtic return to action against Partick Thistle in eight days time, all the attention will be back to on the pitch matters.
That is why it is important that the Hoops board make their complaint and demand for an apology as soon as possible. It is the logical thing to do following the comments from Neil Lennon.
