There has been a lot of uncertainty this season over the goalkeeping position. Neil Lennon started the season with Scott Bain in goals. He then changed it to Vasilis Barkas. Now he is favouring Bain once more.

That is a complete change from last season. Fraser Forster made the position his own as soon as he returned to Celtic Park.

The seeming lack of clarity about who is going to be the first-choice Celtic goalkeeper going forward has led to some speculation about the Hoops possibly signing a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

Hoops have been linked with two goalkeepers

As reported by 67HH, Manchester United’s Dean Foster has been linked with a move to Celtic, as has a return to the club for Fraser Forster.

Bain and Barkas can’t do anything about that. What they have to do is concentrate on helping Celtic on the pitch, impress Neil Lennon in training and ignore all the noise and the speculation.

There is bound to be plenty of speculation about Celtic players in the run-up to the January transfer window.

Thankfully both Bain and Barkas are experienced players. You would doubt that either player would be affected by the rumours that are going to surround the goalkeeping position.

Both players should be out to impress manager

Both players should be out to impress Neil Lennon. Barkas should be thinking that if he impresses on the training ground, that might catch the manager’s eye, and he will return to the first-team.

Meanwhile, Bain should be looking to make as many important saves as possible whilst he is in the current position of first-choice goalkeeper.

Some clean sheets would help on that front as well. So far Bain has only managed one clean sheet in the six games he has played so far this season.

Only time will tell if Neil Lennon decides to sign a goalkeeper in January. However, Bain and Barkas must forget about all that and concentrate on their own games.

In other news, Kris Ajer is out but Jeremie Frimpong is available for Celtic’s trip to Easter Road.
