As Celtic go through final preparations for their trip to Wales tomorrow, fans can look forward to the biggest week yet of Ange Postecoglou’s short reign as Bhoys boss.

The main events on the table are pre-season friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic.

Both games are 3 pm kick-offs on Wednesday and Saturday. They will also both be shown live on the Pass To Paradise for those of us who season tickets. Celtic TV subscribers will also be able to view the action.

I get that some people definitely fall into the camp of “pre-season friendlies are a waste of time and I will be miserable about them”, but I always enjoy them! It’s a pressure-free environment to watch Celtic. You usually get a glimpse of young players coming through Lennoxtown. And, with a new manager in the door, we’ll get an early heads-up on tactics and outlook.

You can’t read anything into the results of course, but those with eagle-eyes will get something out of them. The first games of the Postecoglou era are upon us.

Celtic fans will surely get a signing or two

Elsewhere, there is surely transfer news on the horizon. The signing of Osaze Urhoghide came from nowhere last week, proof enough that Celtic’s transfer business may not be well signalled this summer. The club know that more players are needed before our European qualifying run.

With Mohamed Elyounoussi, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny now officially off the books too, a significant chunk of wages has just become directly available.

It’s time for the major first-team signings supporters are looking for.

Beyond that, we’ll no doubt get plenty of content from the club’s media team while they’re in Wales. They’ve upped their game recently, especially with the Mic’d Up video involving Ange Postecoglou.

We’re hoping for more training footage, more interviews with the manager and a fresh new outlook from last season’s players.

There’s even the possibility of a new Celtic captain being announced. With senior players such as Callum McGregor and James Forrest returning to the squad from international duty, could Postecoglou sit down with his preferred choice and make a big announcement? I could see that happening over the next seven days.

So, buckle up. This could well be the most exciting week at the club for quite a while.
