If you work in social media for Celtic, knowing the fans are buzzing after an important away win and favourable results around the league, you know just what to do: post pictures of Ange Postecoglou.

The big Greek-Aussie manager was on typically brilliant form today, swatting media rhetoric away and thanking the supporters. He immediately won over optimists, then turned the tide of the sceptics who questioned Celtic’s wisdom in hiring him.

After all, it was something of a gamble, even with his fantastic reputation. In the sense that every managerial hire is predicated with risk. Sheer lack of knowledge about the former Australia boss ruled the rhetoric early on.

But results like today proved Celtic’s mettle under Postecoglou. Disciplined, dogged and dominant, Celtic weren’t exactly Brazil ’70, but they had enough class to overcome Motherwell, and delight supporters.

So what did Celtic’s social media team do? They struck the mood exactly right, with photos of the boss celebrating today’s win.

Fish in a barrel, really.

It’s genuinely possible that Celtic fans haven’t taken to a manager’s personality like this since Martin O’Neill in 2000. That reception followed a grim season, too, and significant investment was needed. On either occasion, the Celtic boss had to be brave and bold.

O’Neill ended up winning a treble, but no such expectations have landed on Postecoglou’s lap. He has, though, started to show that this Celtic team has plenty of its own character to grind out important wins on the road.

In any event, the social media team played a blinder here:

Look at him, how can you not love him?

With Ferencvaros up next, there’s plenty of work for the ex-Yokohama F Marinos boss to be getting on with. Still, though, you can’t blame for revelling in today’s victory.

Celtic supporters are a typically enthusiastic lot. And while today was a game we really ought’ve won anyway, it doesn’t make it any less satisfying.
