Celtic fans react as Chris Sutton hits out at Neil Lennon moaners

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton used his weekly Daily Record column on Saturday to take aim at fans who have an issue with Neil Lennon’s performance as manager.

Referring to them as “The Groan Brigade”, Sutton didn’t miss with his comments, writing in the paper: “I can’t believe the grumblings after just two competitive games – and wins – as Celtic sailed through their toughest ever first-round Champions League
qualifier against Sarajevo with a 5-2 aggregate win.

“How does the famous saying go? You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

In my view, the Hoops are playing more functionally that stylishly right now, but like Sutton I don’t see how too much of the blame can be laid at Lennon’s door.

He’s done everything asked of him since he walked in the door in February and results are carrying us forward in a positive fashion.

One essentially meaningless defeat at Ibrox aside, has there been much to complain about?

There was a big response to Sutton’s comments on social media with supporters offering various views about what to make of both the Daily Record man’s comments and of Lennon.

Some were in favour of his opinion…

Meanwhile, others aren’t aware of much negativity towards the manager…

And it’s fair to say Sutton’s comments didn’t go down well with a few…

Pre-season can be a crazy and anxious time, especially when signings aren’t exactly flowing in the door.

While fans are going to have a variety of views, all fair in their own right, I reckon patience will be required with the Neil Lennon project.

He’s proven before he can get it right and produce success both domestically and in Europe. He deserves backing until both of those things look unlikely.
