Celtic announced in a statement on Wednesday that the club have appointed Nick Hammond as the Head of Football Operations.

Hammond is said to have already conducted a review of recruitment and scouting at the Scottish champions.

Having already worked alongside Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon this summer on a number of a transfers, he will now be leading the Hoops forward in that department.

As quoted by CelticFC.net, Lawwell said of the appointment: “We are delighted to appoint Nick to the position of Head of Football Operations. He has provided excellent advice to the club over the summer period and his wealth of knowledge and expertise will be invaluable to Celtic going forward.

“We are delighted that he has agreed to join the club permanently and having worked so successfully with the club already, we have ensured important continuity for the future.”

Hammond has previously held the positions of Director of Football at Reading and Technical Director at West Bromwich Albion.

After the departure of Lee Congerton to Leicester City, Lennon had admitted earlier this season there was a ‘void’ at the club on the recruitment side of things, so hopefully this will be a move that fills that gap and proves fruitful going forward.

Some fans are certainly optimistic, feeling like the club have made a good move in the wake of a successful summer transfer window.
