Celtic have a job of their own this summer with regards to their recruitment, and comparing our work to Rangers is absolutely pointless.
Our rivals made their first summer signing this afternoon. They completed the free transfer signing of Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstrum. Fair play, he’s an experienced pro with plenty of Premier League games under his belt.
But it does us absolutely no favours to start panicking over the fact they’re strengthening. It shouldn’t force Celtic to speed anything up and it certainly shouldn’t persuade us into moving on to different targets.
Celtic know what their task is this summer. We need to strengthen more or less all over the pitch. We need a new goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back, left-back, left-winger, and centre-forward.
Regardless of who Rangers sign, that won’t change. We have enough on our plate without consistently comparing what we’re doing to our main competition.
Celtic recruitment work doesn’t change regardless of what Rangers do
Steven Gerrard’s side have a different job on their hands this summer. They have a settled squad and different problem areas they’ll need to work on. Their signings should make absolutely no difference to us nor should it deviate from the plans Ange Postecoglou has for his football team.
For the fact is that what we’re building at Parkhead this season should be strong enough to eventually wrestle the title from Rangers regardless of what they do.
Comparing things such as player signings, the leagues they’ve come from, the experience they have under their belts. It’s all meaningless. Every player signed is being signed with a purpose by Celtic. We have to believe that, even if certain signings are more inexperienced that what our rivals bring in, it’s because they can add to us what we need to win the title.

Postecoglou has enough pressure on his shoulders this term. There’s no point overbearing him with needless point-scoring with our rivals. Ange hasn’t got to the position he is in today by obsessing over what other clubs do.
He has a plan that he’ll carry out at Celtic that will be achievable regardless of what the opposition does or can afford to do. That’s the system we must trust at the moment.
Looking over the city to see what they’re up to is fine. But worrying about it? Celtic are in too exciting a place at the moment for us to allow that to happen.
In other news, the Celtic players who could feature in Wales that we thought we’d never see again.
