Celtic manager Neil Lennon’s confirmation that Vakoun Issouf Bayo will be out of action for around six weeks with an injury might have concerned some Hoops fans.
After all, Celtic only have one fit striker currently available – Odsonne Edouard. That is a situation that admittedly isn’t great, especially if Edouard gets injured.
However, it should be remembered that Bayo has yet to score a league goal for the Hoops this season. He was unfortunate not to be credited with goals against Hearts, but he has still to break his league drought.
Three players on double figures
That is not a problem that the rest of the Celtic team has. The Hoops currently have three players on double figures for goals, and only one of them is a striker.
Odsonne Edouard is on 12 goals for the season. That is not a surprise, as he is the club’s main striker. However, James Forrest and Ryan Christie have also made sizeable contributions. Forrest has scored 10 goals this season, with Christie on 12.
Another player who has started to contribute goals on a regular basis is Mohamed Elyounoussi. He is already on five goals for the Hoops, and he has only been at the club for two months.
Biggest concern will be if key striker gets injured
The concern for Celtic fans and Neil Lennon will be what happens if Edouard gets injured. The Hoops would miss his all-round play badly.
However, the evidence suggests that his goals could be replaced by goals from the middle of the park. It might not be the best idea for a non-striker to play up-front. However, if that is what Celtic are forced to do then so be it.
The Hoops have the goals to replace Bayo. They have already proved that this season. That is why there should be no panic about the striker missing more than a month of action. The goals should still flow for the Hoops.
