Celtic must attempt to trim bloated squad before window slams shut

Celtic have completed a number of transfer deals this January transfer window.

The likes of Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo have all joined in recent weeks. This is a good thing, as more forward thinking players were required to win the title.

However, when you look at Celtic’s official first team squad, there is a problem.

There are far too many players at the club who are not getting a game.

For example, Dorus de Vries and Marvin Compper are two players who have little to no future at the club. Neither player has made a first-appearance this season.

Indeed, The Scottish Sun reported that talks were ongoing with Compper to get him out of Celtic.

As yet though, no deal has been agreed.

If the likes of Compper and third choice goalkeeper de Vries leave before the transfer window closes it will be a job well done for the Hoops.

The club do seem to understand that there are too many first-players at the club, and have sent at least one player on loan.

Conor Hazard is the player in question, he joined Partick Thistle on loan earlier this month.

It would make sense if more players, particularly youngsters, went on loan before the transfer window closes.

Buying players is obviously much more exciting for fans than selling players. But at this stage of the season, getting players out is as important as getting players in.
