Celtic could be set to add another midfielder to their ranks, according to a report. Sky Sports is reporting, citing Sky Sports News, that the Hoops have approached Bolton about signing Luca Connell.
Connell is available on a free transfer, as his contract is set to expire very soon. The player broke into the Bolton first-team last season, making 12 appearances, mostly as a defensive midfielder.
More defensive midfielders needed

Despite his best efforts, the player was unable to prevent Bolton from being relegated to League One. The fact that Connell is a defensive midfielder is quite intriguing.
It has to be said that aside from Scott Brown and Nir Bitton, the Hoops lack midfielders who are more defensive minded.

A player for the future
Most of the midfielders at the club are focused on getting forward and scoring as many goals as they can. Perhaps Celtic see Connell as the defensive midfielder of the future.

Should that be the case, perhaps it would be best for the player not to go on loan right away if he signs. A spell learning from Brown and Bitton in training would be just as useful.
Then perhaps Connell could go on loan for a season, returning when Brown has retired. That might sound a bit far-fetched. But it would be a canny bit of forward planning from the Hoops.
