Are Celtic setting themselves up for a fall if they break the bank for Mousset?

It seems that Celtic are in the market for a striker this summer. One of the names that has been mooted is Bournemouth’s Lys Mousset.

However, it seems that if the Hoops want to sign the player, they will reportedly have to break their transfer record for the player.

Now, that is something the Hoops have done before. Odsonne Edouard was signed for a club record fee last summer. However, Edouard had showed plenty of goalscoring pedigree in his loan spell at Celtic.

Not the best scoring record

Mousset has not done that in his time at Bournemouth. He only scored two goals for the Premier League side last season, in 28 appearances.

That is not the quality of player that you usually spend big money on. If the Hoops are going to break their transfer record on a player, you would expect him to have a better scoring record than that.

Manager could think there is a player there

However, perhaps Neil Lennon thinks he can get something out of the player. That could be why he is reportedly interested in the player.

It would be a huge gamble to spend such big money on a player with such a poor recent scoring record though. If the player didn’t get off to a good start the pressure would be on.

Celtic and Lennon will need to take these issues into account before deciding if Mousset is worth breaking the bank over.
