Celtic should take Ofir Marciano at his word and make Hibernian an offer

Hibernian goalkeeper Ofir Marciano has hinted that he would like to leave the Easter Road club in the near future.

The 29-year-old was signed by current Celtic boss Neil Lennon back in 2017 when he was in charge of Hibs.

The Israeli keeper played the majority of the Easter Road side’s matches last season after winning a battle to be their number one. In total he played 23 matches for Paul Heckingbottom’s men, keeping eight clean sheets.

Marciano thinks he’s done enough to earn a move to a bigger club judging by his latest comments made to Israeli outlet One,

“I want to keep myself moving on”, he said. “In our short career we have to move forward as quickly as possible.

“I had a good season and I feel like I deserve to move forward.

“I hope to make that upgrade and jump forward.”

Verdict

It will be interesting to see if Marciano’s comments are heard by either Celtic or his former boss Lennon. The goalkeeper has proven himself to be one of the best in the Premiership over the past few seasons and he would give us much needed cover in the position.

We’ve only got two first-team goalies left at the club right now and there’s speculation over one of them. Craig Gordon hasn’t featured for Celtic in 2019 and may try to force a move away this summer. If he does then we could do a lot worse than sign Marciano.

The Israeli is contracted at Easter Road until 2021 but it probably wouldn’t cost a great deal to tempt him away. Scott Bain has come on leaps and bounds since making the switch from Dundee last year. There’s nothing to suggest that Marciano couldn’t do the same.
