Former England international Glen Johnson has opened the door for a potential move to Celtic this summer. There is no concrete interest from the club in the rampaging right-back but that hasn’t stopped Johnson from commenting.

Asked if he would move to Celtic by Jim White on talkSPORT (Thursday 23rd May, 10am) Johnson simply said: “Yeah. I’d get my boots on, no drama.”
So the 54 time England cap would clearly fancy a jaunt to Scotland to perhaps finish his playing days. Would any move make sense for Celtic too?

Marquee signings
Celtic have signed so called “marquee” players with varied success over the past decade or so. For every Robbie Keane and Craig Bellamy there’s been a Freddie Ljungberg or Kolo Toure (on the pitch at least).
The latter is a prime example of what an older, experienced head can bring to the dressing room. Toure is said to have had a big effect on a number of Celtic’s defenders when he joined the club in 2016.

Recent career
Johnson’s recent career trajectory is the main reason why Celtic shouldn’t move for him. The full-back is without a club after leaving Stoke City last year. He started 59 times for The Potters in three seasons after moving from Liverpool in 2015.
The fact he has been unable to find a club this season suggests this is one Celtic should steer well clear of.
