Celtic supporters are set to learn a lot more about Ange Postecoglou this week
The Celtic supporters are enjoying what they’re seeing so far from new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The former Yokohama F.Marinos boss has managed to win plenty over with his comments since joining the club. From his media conferences to his training sessions – there’s a confidence returning to the Parkhead support once again.
We feel we know plenty about Postecoglou. The style of football he likes, his footballing upbringing, his no-nonsense demeanour regarding fitness standards. He looks as though he has everything you would want in a football coach.
But there’s still so much more we’ve yet to find out, and this week is going to change all of that. Celtic will tomorrow head south for a pre-season training camp in Wales. The camp will take place from July 5th to 14th [Celtic Website].
There, Postecoglou will take charge of his first two Celtic matches. Yes, they’re pre-season friendlies, but the momentum will only continue to build with positive results.
Both games will occur this week. Celtic will tackle Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday at 3pm. Charlton Athletic will then be next up on Saturday at the same time. Both matches can be viewed live on Celtic TV for all subscribers [Celtic Website].
Celtic fans will see Ange Postecoglou make a host of interesting decisions
Despite all we know about Postecoglou, there’s so much we don’t know regarding how he’ll manage this Celtic side.
With regards to personnel, it’s still unclear as to who he views as his new captain. The same goes for who he’ll select to be his number one moving forward. There are also major question marks over whether he can reignite the careers of Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths.
What about his new signings? Does he view Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide as immediate first-team regulars? How far is he willing to go with youth players during the Wales camp? What formation will he look to play and how will Celtic look to get at their opponents?
Celtic fans are going to find out the answer to all of these questions and more this week. From the two pre-season games down south, it’s going to become clear just what Postecoglou wants to do with this group of players. His starting XI for Midtjylland in particular should become a lot less blurry after our two pre-season matches.
Yes, Celtic also have a final pre-season match scheduled for July 14th in Bristol against Bristol City. But Postecoglou will have a host of decisions to make in Wales. It’s this current pre-season camp he’ll be seriously looking to stamp his authority in.
We know what Ange Postecoglou the Celtic manager looks like off the pitch. And we like it. But what does Ange Postecoglou the Celtic manager look like when it comes to matches? With so many questions still to be answered heading into the season, we’re going to find out plenty of answers over the next six days in particular.
It’s a hugely exciting time to be a Celtic supporter once again.
