Celtic supporters highlight sudden Shane Duffy improvement after Brighton return

The Celtic supporters have hailed Shane Duffy for managing to turn his career around after a difficult year at Parkhead.

Duffy came up to Scotland on-loan last term with a reputation of being a powerful, no-nonsense centre-back. Instead, however, he made basic and clumsy errors early on that rocked his confidence. Instead of thriving, things blew up for the Brighton defender and his time at Celtic Park would prove to ultimately be an embarrassing one for the player.

Now, however, he’s back thriving in his comfort zone with Brighton. Duffy has managed to win his spot back under Graham Potter, and once again looks like the player Celtic thought they were bringing in last season.

The Republic of Ireland veteran has played every minute of Brighton’s Premier League campaign so far. Better yet, he’s been part of a centre-back partnership with Lewis Dunk that’s only shipped five goals all season.

Last night, Duffy came up against former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. Despite it looking highly likely that the latter would show him up, it would prove to be the opposite once again as the centre-back shone in the 1-1 draw.

Stat trackers WhoScored clocked Duffy making five clearances as well as three interceptions and two successful tackles. With an overall rating of 7.26/10, it’s clear he was one of the standouts.

Nobody has any anger towards Duffy for how his Celtic spell panned out. It just wasn’t the right fit, and his failure here certainly wasn’t due to a lack of trying.

On top of that, the club was a total mess last term. Duffy wasn’t the reason we lost 10IAR, that responsibility falls on many other shoulders before the Irish defender takes any blame. There’s disappointment in how things went, but at the same time you can’t not be happy for him given everything he went through on and off the pitch here.

Duffy clearly feels at home with Brighton. Whether it’s due to the fact there’s less expectation and pressure only he can answer. Perhaps it’s the fact they defend so deep and don’t play with as high a defensive line as Celtic do.

Whatever the reason, he’s managed to turn his career around. And there are plenty of Celtic fans who moved to praise him after last night:
