There are parallels which can be drawn between the situation that faces Celtic as they head into the winter break this season and last season.
Last season the Hoops went into the winter break on the back of a poor performance in a derby defeat. The same has happened this season. Perhaps the only difference is that rivals Rangers have a game in hand this season, whilst last season it was Celtic who did.
Despite that slight difference the similarities are there, and during the winter break last season then manager Brendan Rodgers managed to regroup and focus the players on the matter at hand, winning the league title.
Hoops went on title winning run of victories
The players responded to Rodgers, as they won their first eight league games in a row following the winter break. That run of form put the Hoops well on the road to the league title.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon will be hoping for similar results when the Hoops return to league duty towards the end of the month.
A run similar to last season’s would put the Hoops in a great position to win their ninth title in a row. Neil Lennon will no doubt be expressing that sentiment to his players. They will know that they are in a title battle, and that every match is important if the club wants to win the league.
Players know how to win the title
Thankfully Celtic have plenty of players in the squad who know all about how to win a league. That will undeniably be a bonus in the high-pressure situation that the squad is going to find itself in when the team returns to league duty.
The winter break could be key to Celtic winning the title this season for a number of reasons. Let’s hope a winning run similar to last season’s is just one of those.
