Tickets for Celtic home games are becoming increasingly sought after.
The success of Ange Postecoglou’s team and the style of play means that the fans are flocking to Celtic Park in their thousands to see their heroes, which means that when the limited amounts of tickets go on general sale, they are snapped up very quickly – sometimes leaving a lot of fans who would like to go feeling frustrated.
After announcing that tickets for the home tie on the 22nd of April against Motherwell were on general sale, in less than two hours, the game was announced as a sell-out via the club’s official Twitter feed.
Whilst the backing of the club from the fans has been phenomenal, we all know that there will be empty seats at the stadium as some season ticket holders, whether it be for work commitments or otherwise, cannot make the game.
Those supporters should be commended. To commit to the club during a time of financial hardship knowing that not all games cannot be attended is a testament to how much the fans love backing Celtic. But could more be done by the club to ensure those seats that will lie empty be filled by fans?
I would love to see the club bring in some kind of ticket exchange scheme or maybe even develop an app that allows season ticket holders to let the club know in advance if they cannot make a specific match.
That would then allow the club to put that seat out for general resale and therefore generate more matchday income and keep disappointed fans happy.
While it may well be a logistical challenge for the club to solve, the theory of if is something of a no-brainer. Other clubs in Scotland are starting to introduce similar schemes.
Obviously, it would take a bit of development and liaising with the fans for that kind of operation to run smoothly but it’s not in the realm of impossibility is it? It’s something the club should seriously look at for the beginning of the new season.
