Celtic's trio of assist kings can give Hoops cup final advantage
Celtic have been scoring goals non-stop this season. It is part of the reason why the Hoops are top of the league, won their Europa League group, and in the final of the Betfred Cup. However, one aspect of Celtic’s attacking play that doesn’t seem to be commented on that much are the number of assists the Hoops’ attackers have been contributing.
The Hoops are lucky enough to have three players in their squad who not only have double figures in goals, but double figures in assists too. The players are James Forrest, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard.
Christie is Celtic’s top scorer this season with 16 goals, but he also has contributed 10 assists. Odsonne Edouard has scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists whilst James Forrest has 13 goals, and he tops the assist chart with 13 of those too.
Number of assists is down to attacking play
The number of assists each player has – 35 between them – is down to the relentless attacking football that has been played by Neil Lennon’s Celtic side this season. The attacking style of play seems to be paying off as well, as the Hoops have won their last 11 games in all competitions.
With regard to Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final against Rangers, the attacking trio could give the Hoops that is needed to keep the trophy at Celtic Park.
Trio are more than capable of winning cup final for Hoops
Christie and Forrest will start for sure, and you imagine that they will be a constant attacking threat to the Ibrox side. Edouard might be an injury doubt for the game, but he is more than capable of coming off the bench and contributing either a goal or an assist.
The cup final could be a typically cagey derby match, or perhaps both teams will throw caution to the wind and go all out on the attack. Either way, Celtic have the players who can handle both situations, and the assist kings of Edouard, Forrest and Christie can provide the platform for a Hoops win.
