Chris Sutton stunned the studio with his Celtic and Rangers title claim, but once the full exchange is laid out, his argument does not hold up.
With four games to go, Celtic have four fixtures still to play against Hibs (A), Rangers (H), Motherwell (A) and Hearts (H). And with just three points separating the Hoops from Hearts, there is everything to play for.
After Celtic beat Falkirk and Rangers lost to Motherwell at Ibrox, Sutton was asked if he thought Rangers have a better chance of winning the title than his old club.
His answer stunned the BBC studio that consisted of Tom English and Mark Chapman.

Celtic results expose flaw in Chris Sutton’s title claim
With Celtic starting to find form and Rangers blinking first Tom English asked Sutton the Celtic and Rangers title question.
Tom English: Do you think Rangers have more of a chance of winning the title than Celtic, Chris?”
Sutton: “Yep.”
Chapman: “Do you?”
Sutton: “Yeah, I do. Yeah. I mean, bearing in mind, Celtic haven’t beaten them and they’ve got to go to Celtic Park, but it wouldn’t be a great surprise.
Chapman: “Are you doing that old reverse psychology thing?
Sutton: “Well, I’m not revealing that. I was there on Saturday night watching Celtic play against Falkirk and Falkirk played some really good football.
“There were times at Celtic Park they [Celtic] got really nervy at 2-1 and they [Falkirk] could have got something out of the game.
“Celtic end up winning 3-1. Celtic are finding a way, but I do not think that’s sustainable.”
Celtic consistency outweighs Rangers narrative
The only concrete point raised is the Glasgow Derby record. Celtic have not beaten Rangers this season in the league, and that remains relevant.
But a title race is not decided on one fixture. It is built across every game, and Celtic continue to collect points where it matters.
The Falkirk example does not weaken that position. A 3-1 win, even with moments of pressure, reinforces the ability to manage games and deliver results.
That is what sustains title challenges. It is not about dominance in Rangers games, it is about consistency across a whole campaign.
Sutton’s claim ignores the only evidence that matters. Celtic are winning and staying in control of their season.
The reaction in the studio reflected the disconnect. The statement landed as a surprise because it does not match up with what is happening on the pitch.
Celtic title challenge remains defined by results, and those results continue to stack up. Until that changes, the title picture is driven by facts, not claims.
