Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has taken to social media to give his opinion in Timothy Weah’s exit from Celtic.

The loanee confirmed on Instagram that his deal had been cut short after he was selected for the United States under 20s World Cup squad.

Sutton, on his official Twitter account, declared himself ‘surprised’ at Weah’s departure.

“Significant impact”

“I’m surprised Timo Weah has gone now. He has shown he has plenty to offer and has made a significant impact. Good luck to him” he said.

Weah’s exit did come as a bit of a shock. As Sutton says, he did contribute for the Hoops in his time at the club.

However, the Daily Record has reported that Weah turned down the chance to stay in the Celtic squad for the Scottish Cup Final.

Weah wanted to stay with the America squad instead, so the Hoops cut short the loan spell.

Exit makes sense

The fact that Weah turned down the chance to stay with the club means that his departure makes a bit more sense now.

That doesn’t mean that Weah won’t be missed at Celtic Park though.

Should the Hoops suffer an attacking injury crisis before the cup final, Weah would have been a useful player to have around.

However, the club decided it was the right thing to do to cut the loan deal short.
