There can be no doubt that Ryan Christie has been one of Celtic’s best performers this season. His 10 goals this season have added a new dimension to the Hoops team.
However, after watching Christie in Celtic’s 2-0 loss to Valencia it is clear that he still has it all to do to reach the very top with the Hoops.
It looked to be a game too far for Christie. That doesn’t make much sense at first, when you consider how effective he has been this season.
His best performances have been in domestic matches though. In Europe he has found the going tough so far.
Despite his poor performance against Valencia, Christie should not lose his place in the team. He is still too important, and he should definitely start the upcoming league game against Kilmarnock.
However, Brendan Rodgers should consider resting Christie for the second leg against Valencia.
Being completely honest, domestic football is more important this season following the loss to Valencia.
That’s why the team should have an experimental look for the second leg. Give the likes of Christie, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard time off to prepare for the important games.
There is no doubt Christie had a very bad night against Valencia. He still has a lot to learn if he wants to play at the very highest level. But he is more than capable of bouncing back against Kilmarnock.
