Cluj involvement shows that Conor Hazard is in Celtic's plans

Conor Hazard has yet to make a first-team appearance for Celtic. However, he still seems to be in the club’s plans.

We know that as he travelled to Romania with the Hoops side for the game against Cluj. He was pictured with his team-mates leaving for the game on Celtic’s Twitter account.

You have to think that there is a real chance that Hazard will be on the bench for the Hoops in Romania. Neil Lennon confirmed that Fraser Forster didn’t travel for the game, and that Craig Gordon will play a part, so Hazard could find himself as the second choice goalkeeper on the night.

Was recently on emergency loan

It was only last month that the player was on an emergency loan with Dundee, where he played in five games, conceding five goals and keeping one clean sheet in the process.

Now he is back at Celtic, and seemingly he has a place in Neil Lennon’s plans. Interestingly, what happens with Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster could dictate what happens with Hazard’s time at the club.

Craig Gordon’s contract expires at Celtic at the end of the season. As he has not been first-choice goalkeeper for around a year, you imagine that he will decide to move on at the end of his contract in search of first-team football.

Forster’s loan deal with Celtic also expires at the end of the season, and he is due to return to Southampton. Celtic would love to keep him, but would they be able to afford his wages or transfer fee? That is the big question.

Could be in contention for first-team next season

If neither player is at Celtic next season, then Hazard could be in competition with Scott Bain to be the number one goalkeeper at the club.

That is why it makes sense for him to be travelling to Romania. It is a good idea to give him the experience of a European game, before he possibly becomes a regular part of the first-team squad next season.
