Daizen Maeda has spoken more openly about his Celtic future than ever before and one answer stands above the rest.

There has been no shortage of transfer stories surrounding the Japan international this summer. Most are around Maeda’s ambition to play in the Premier League rather than anything concrete happening behind the scenes.

That is no longer the case. Maeda has now addressed the situation himself and, in doing so, revealed something Celtic supporters had not heard from him before.

Daizen Maeda’s Celtic admission changes the picture

Asked about his future, Maeda told PIVOT, “It’s really not decided yet. It’s about negotiations between Celtic and the other party.

“Until that’s finalised, I still have one year left on my contract with Celtic.

“For me, it’s simply that I want to play in the Premier League, and I don’t care which team it is, I just want to play here.

“So, no matter which team it is, what I have to do won’t change. I think that’s the only thing that matters when it comes to fighting.

“I don’t know which team I’ll be on next season, but I think I’ll just have to do my best with the team I’m with now.”

Wanting the Premier League isn’t the story. Negotiations are.

That is the first time Maeda has publicly admitted Celtic are negotiating with another club.

Celtic still hold the key to Maeda’s future

Maeda also made it clear nothing has been agreed. Stressing that he remains under contract for another year, the pacey forward will continue giving everything for whichever club he plays for next season.

Nothing has been agreed yet. What has changed is that Maeda himself has confirmed Celtic are negotiating with another club, leaving little doubt about where this story now stands.
