Former Celtic boss Davie Hay isn’t in favour of Gary Hooper making a return to the club. The Scottish Sun reported this week that if Neil Lennon becomes the next permanent Hoops boss he wants to bring Hooper to the club for a second spell.
However, Hay thinks that Celtic must look for high quality targets than the attacker, who was recently released by Sheffield Wednesday.
“A step backwards”

“I think it might be a step backwards” Hay said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“I would like to think they would be able to attract a better quality of player. That’s meaning no disrespect to a striker who did well for Celtic when he was here before.”

The worry that most fans would have about Hooper is the injury issues that the player has had over the last 18 months.
Injury issues are a worry

He rarely featured for Sheffield Wednesday due to a variety of problems, including a knee injury.
He might not be the player he was in his first spell with the Hoops. Back then he was firing on all cylinders.
If Hooper was coming in to play a bit-part role then he could be a decent addition to the side. However, it would be a concern if he was going to be one of the main strikers next season.
Hay is correct, the Hoops must look to bring in quality for next season.
