Defiant Ange Postecoglou mindset won’t be hindered by dispiriting Celtic questions

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou won’t let the in-coming questions of his squad affect his or the player’s mindset, as shown in the past.

After going five games without a win in this season’s Champions League group stage, questions are always likely to arise regarding the performance of Postecoglou’s side.

Of course, there has been plenty of frustration across this European campaign. But there is always a bigger picture to be looked at.

Whilst the Bhoys have picked up just two points from their games against Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, and Shakhtar Donetsk so far, their performances have been deserving of more.

Although at the same time, points on the board are just as crucial as the performances put in on the pitch, which is likely to be the main focus of the media and pundits in this country.

Any small sign of a negative result under the 57-year-old leads to plenty of questions being asked of himself or his Celtic squad.

And, in the next few days, we are likely to see them rise once again, ahead of the Hoops trip to take on Livingston in the Scottish Premiership this Sunday.

Despite the negative points and questions that will inevitably come the way of Postecoglou or any players speaking to the media, we already know that it won’t affect the mindset of anyone behind the scenes at Lennoxtown.

Particularly the Celtic manager.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad have shown that some of their biggest lessons can come in defeat.

As Celtic supporters, we are all aware of the mentality the minute you become involved at Celtic Park. Whether that is as a player, supporter or manager.

The most important thing is winning and being a successful side.

The moment Ange Postecoglou arrived in Glasgow, he automatically knew of that responsibility and got to work building a team capable of doing just that.

As I am sure we all remember, it took some time for things to get going under the stewardship of the former Socceroos boss.

However, we got there in the end, lifting a Scottish Premiership and Premier Sports Cup double by the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

And some of our most important lessons to reach those levels came in defeat. One moment that stands out as a huge learning curve for me last season was our 4-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

Although we were on the end of a hammering, the performance that night give the squad the belief that they can compete and impose their style of play on any game.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has previously talked up that moment as a vital point in the season, where everything seemed to click.

So, you would imagine the ex-Yokohama F Marinos manager is keen to use his squad’s experience in the Champions League this season as another vital lesson, similar to this one.

Questions may come Postecoglou’s way over the coming days, and he has shown on several occasions how skilled he is at tackling the media.

Of course, after the frustration of the results in all five games, supporters will be keen to hear some of the answers from the Celtic manager.

But, the one crucially important thing he won’t do is let these questions affect his or the player’s mindset as they continue to aim for improvements going forward, and they will be doing that their own way.
