Celtic’s left-back position came to the fore last week after the injury to Uruguayan full-back Marcelo Saracchi.
With Kieran Tierney as Celtic’s main left-back, the other option that Martin O’Neill has in that position is the lesser-spotted Japanese defender Hayato Inamura.
There is hope that Saracchi’s hamstring injury won’t be as serious as first thought but with options in that position limited, have Celtic made a mistake when they let young Mitchel Frame leave the club in the summer?
Because it appears that Aberdeen have big plans for the defender despite young Frame’s struggles to break into Jimmy Thelin’s first team.

Journalist shares what Jimmy Thelin told him about ex-Celtic kid Mitchel Frame
Frame is yet to make a single senior first-team appearance for Aberdeen since his big summer move from Celtic.
But despite that, it appears Thelin has big plans for the young defender as journalist Scott Burns reveals this week.
Burns told Hotline Live, “The three players there, [Mitchel] Frame, Kjartan Kyartarsson, and [Kenan] Bilalovic.
“Obviously, Aberdeen spent a fair bit of money on those three players, and we’ve asked Jimmy the question on these three players umpteen times, and it’s always the same answer.
“We’ve signed players for the now to hit the ground running, and we’ve also signed players for the longer term. He views these three players as the longer term.
“So, whether that’s six months, whether that’s a couple of seasons down the line, whether the manager will see the benefits of these, who knows?
“But that’s the argument of these three, that they’re not quite ready to play in his first team every week, but they’ve got great potential, and that’s why they’ve signed them.
“Aberdeen feel they can develop them into first team regulars, and then in the model where they’ve used previously with Bojan Miovski and Lewis Ferguson, they can eventually move them on for bigger fees.”
Mitchel Frame’s only Celtic appearance was surprising but an historic one
Frame only made one appearance for Celtic during his time at the club but it was one he and the Hoops supporters will not forget.
The youngster was given a 15-minute run-out in Celtic’s Champions League win over Feyenoord at Parkhead in December 2023.
The young attacking full-back impressed with his direct running, confidence and skill as he helped the Hoops end a 10-year wait for a Champions League win in UEFA’s top competition.
With Celtic’s options limited at left-back and Aberdeen having confidence that Frame will develop into a player who will net them a hefty transfer fee, did the Parkhead club make a mistake allowing the 19-year-old to leave so soon?
