Divock Origi could offer Wilfried Nancy a Celtic option after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update

Wilfried Nancy’s need for a striker was highlighted in Celtic’s win over Aberdeen at the weekend.

The Hoops boss watched his side give up chance after chance during Celtic’s win over the Dons as the 3-1 scoreline flattered Jimmy Thelin’s side.

With 31 shots on goal, Celtic should have had the game out of sight but with Johnny Kenny and Daizen Maeda forgetting to put their shooting boots on, Nancy’s side had to rely on Kieran Tierney and James Forrest to wrap up the three points late in the game.

However, there could be a striker option on the table for Nancy and Celtic after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on former Liverpool man Divock Origi.

Divock Origi terminates AC Milan contract as Celtic search for a striker

Origi was once tipped to join Celtic four years ago when the then Liverpool striker was set to leave Anfield in a reported swap deal for Odsonne Edouard.

However, loan moves to Lille and Wolfsburg were followed up by a permanent transfer to AC Milan in 2022 as Origi looked to make his mark in the Serie A.

But now it seems that dream is over after Romano announced Origi has just terminated his contract at the Italian giants.

Romano said on X, “Divock Origi, available as free agent from January as he’s just signed his contract termination at AC Milan.

“30-year-old striker was out of AC Milan squad and project since summer 2024.”

Could Divock Origi to Celtic really happen?

If the rationale behind not taking Kyogo back is due to his age, then fans may be inclined to take the same stance.

However, Origi does offer quality and experience without the pressure of a high transfer fee.

With 73 goals spread over the Champions League, Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Belgium, Origi has scored against some of the best defences in world football.

Whilst match fitness might be an issue, Kelechi Iheanacho has proved what can be done when that is regained.

The only issue would, of course, be Origi’s salary. Capology reports that he was on roughly £115,000 per week at Milan and the Belgian would have to take a hefty cut if he wanted to entertain a move to Paradise.
