Eboue Kouassi’s time at Celtic so far has been a bit of a disappointment. The midfielder, who joined the Hoops for a reported fee of £3 million from Krasnodar in 2017, has struggled to hold down a first-team place.
It has to be said though, that he hasn’t been helped with some bad luck on the injury front. However, it seems that now he is further away than ever from a Celtic first-team place.
He has not been included in the Hoops squad for the Europa League group stage. That could be a sign that he is not in Neil Lennon’s plans going forward.
Unlikely to get into first-team at the moment
In a way, it is understandable. He is unlikely to get into the first-team side in the middle of the park ahead of the likes of Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham.
However, £3 million is still quite a lot of money for Celtic to spend on a player. The Hoops may well have expected more from the player in the three years he has been at the club.
It is interesting that he didn’t leave the club on loan in the summer transfer window. That might have done the player some good. However, his recovery from his knee injury may have prevented that.
Still at the start of his career
As it stands, he has still has another two years left on his Celtic contract. It should also be remembered that he is still only 21, and it still only at the start of his football career.
However, the fact that he has played only 22 games for the Hoops has to be a concern. At the moment, it has to be said that the player does not look to have much of a future at the Hoops.
There is still time for that to change in the time he has left on his Celtic contract. For the moment though, he looks to be a fair bit away from the first-team.
