The Celtic Supporters Association exposed Celtic’s real problem
The CSA’s 732-word statement covers everything from Desmond, to Brian Wilson to the club’s transfer business. But the real issue was exposed in one brutal sentence.
The most damaging line in the statement could hardly be clearer: “The club continues to operate under a model that is clearly no longer fit for purpose in the football environment of 2026.”
This is not another complaint about one failed transfer window. The CSA have declared Celtic’s entire football operation unfit for purpose.
Desmond’s influence grabbed the headlines, but the CSA also condemned Celtic’s leadership structure and an executive team it believes cannot overcome the modern transfer market. Michael Nicholson sits at the head of it.

That leads directly back to Michael Nicholson. Again. The Celtic CEO’s own explanation for the club’s transfer failures has only intensified the pressure on him.
His comments about dealing with agents, Premier League money, Championship clubs and trying to sell Celtic to players were ridiculous and have put his Parkhead position in an untenable place.
Nicholson is paid to overcome these obstacles, not use them as excuses after another deal collapses.
The failures to land Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi are now added to a long list of blunders the Celtic CEO has overseen during his tenure.
And the most devastating part of it all is this. The board actually bought some small goodwill after Celtic won the double, and in less than two months, they have spent every single bit of it.
