It seems that Celtic are interested in signing one of the hottest properties in Scottish football. According to the Daily Mail, the Hoops are set to make an offer for Motherwell’s David Turnbull.
That comes as no surprise, as Turnbull has been one of the most exciting players to come out of Scotland in a long time.
Plenty of central midfielders

However, Turnbull is a central midfielder. Celtic have plenty of those, and there are other positions which they should be concentrating on first.
One of those positions is centre-back. There is a young Scottish centre-back that the Hoops should be moving for instead of Turnbull.

That player is Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous.
One of the best young defenders in Scotland
Porteous has firmly established himself as one of the best young defenders in Scotland since breaking through into the Hibs side.

He was excellent for the Easter Road club before injuries brought an early end to his season. What makes any potential move for the player so intriguing is that Celtic boss Neil Lennon is more than aware of his capabilities as a player.
He made Porteous a first-team regular whilst he was at Hibs. Lennon made Porteous in a good player at Hibs. He could make him into an even better one at Celtic Park.
Hibs will be loath to sell the player, and he is under contract until 2023. However, should the Hoops make an acceptable bid for the player he would be a most welcome addition to the Celtic squad.
