The Celtic supporters are becoming irked with the recent delays over the debut of new signing Giorgos Giakoumakis.
The Hoops signed the VVV-Venlo for what looks like a bargain deal of up to £2.5m [Sky Sports]. Despite the signing being confirmed on transfer deadline day – August 31st – Celtic fans have still to see him in action.

Giakoumakis wasn’t involved with VVV-Venlo during their pre-season matches. Therefore, a reasonable period was expected for which the striker would need to get himself up to speed.
Ange Postecoglou provided a positive update on this pre-Livingston remember. He hoped he would be back for the game in West Lothian, but stated instead that he would definitely be involved on Thursday night if he missed it [The Herald].
As we all know, Giakoumakis didn’t make the squad for yesterday’s defeat at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Instead, it looks as though he’ll be available for the visit of Raith Rovers in the Premier Sports Cup later this week.
Celtic fans annoyed with Giakoumakis absence; wanted debut at Livingston
Many fans have been left questioning why he wasn’t available for even a cameo role against Livi. After all, Celtic needed to switch things up in Lothian when it was clear we weren’t getting a result as things stood.
Yet, typically, we ended up with the player having to wait a few more days before he could make an impact. Whilst Postecoglou has always been up front with the supporters, it left us in a vulnerable position.
Celtic supporters were always concerned about seeing a performance from Albian Ajeti like we did yesterday. They’re also quite right to question why it’s taking so long for Giakoumakis to play even a cameo role. After all, what a hero he could’ve been from the bench yesterday. It could’ve been the dream start to his Celtic career.
Instead, we’re left ruing the fact he wasn’t available. It could be the case that Postecoglou wanted to protect him from the plastic surface. A home game vs Raith looks a lot more comfortable on paper for example.
Even so, the fans are becoming frustrated with how long it’s taking, and made their concerns heard on social media post-match:
