Neil Lennon have may given a hint that Celtic are set to offer Hoops mainstay Callum McGregor a new contract.
McGregor only signed a new deal last December. However, if you examine Lennon’s comments it may suggest that the Hoops aim to improve McGregor’s deal to ward off any interested clubs.
“He really came to prominence under Brendan, but we want him here, and we want him to play in the Champions League” Lennon said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“Keep him happy”
“We’re trying to make the right inroads to keep him happy and keep him at a top level.”
The ‘right inroads’ to keep McGregor happy could be a hint at a new contract. Perhaps one that makes him the highest paid player at the club.
New deal would be welcomed by the Hoops support
That would certainly be welcomed by the Hoops support. McGregor has already shown his importance this season by scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory over Sarajevo.
If a new improved deal wards off the likes of Leicester City then so be it. The Hoops reportedly told the Premier League side last month that the player was not for sale.
That is a stance that the club must not waver from this summer. If a new, improved contract persuades McGregor to stay at Celtic for the foreseeable future then the Hoops must offer the player the deal.
