James Forrest has been so consistent for Celtic for the past few seasons that his good performances are almost taken for granted. His latest excellent performance came in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Livingston.
Forrest scored a double in the game, taking his total for the season to 13 goals. That he has scored so many goals so early in the season, is testament to how consistent the player is. The fact that he was able to score two goals after coming back from international duty shows how fit the player is. He could have been tired after playing twice for Scotland but that wasn’t the case.
Should Forrest continue his excellent form, he could well have the best season of his career. As has already been stated, he has scored 13 goals this season.
On the way to reaching last season’s goal tally
Last season was the most prolific of Forrest’s career, as he scored 18 goals. Forrest is only five goals from matching that total, and we are not even in December yet. There has to be a good chance that Forrest matches of even beats his goals tally from last season before the winter break.
The Hoops have 10 games to play before the winter break. Providing that he features in most of the games, Forrest could easily score five or six goals to have his best ever season.
Could repeat award won last season
Of course, it should not be forgotten that Forrest was named Scotland’s player of the year this season. If he continues to play well this season, there is no reason why he cannot be named player for the year for the second season in a row.
When you consider how many assists Forrest provides to the team as well as the goals, it sets him apart from the rest of Scottish football, last season he had 20 assists, an excellent record.
Forrest has arguably been Celtic’s best player over the last 18 months. So good has his form been this season that it looks like he will continue to be the best player at the club for a while yet.
