James McFadden thinks his former team-mate Phil Jagielka would be a big success if he moved to Celtic. Recent reports have claimed that Celtic are interested in signing the veteran centre-back.

McFadden believes that Jagielka would be a great influence on his team-mates, who could learn from such an experienced player.

“He would have a tremendous influence on the entire club” McFadden said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

McFadden also believes that the player would have what it takes to cut it in the Scottish Premiership.

“I know he didn’t play loads of late, but when called upon his performance levels were excellent. He’s a no-nonsense style defender and a very tough competitor.”

‘No-nonsense’ defender would be most welcome

McFadden’s comments sound very encouraging. Particularly the way he describes Jagielka’s style of defending. A ‘no-nonsense’ type of player would be a perfect addition to the Celtic backline.

With the Hoops without both Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic going into next season, a new central defender is required.

Obviously it would be too much to expect Jagielka to play for Celtic every week. But Neil Lennon could feel that is worth signing up on a one-year deal.

As yet, the reports regarding the player are only rumours. Maybe Celtic aren’t even interested in the player. If a move is to be made we shall find out soon enough, as the Champions League qualifiers are only a month away.
