Celtic legend John Hartson recently had some interesting comments to say about the Hoops’ domination of Scottish football.
Celtic have won the last nine domestic trophies in a row. They have the chance to make it 10 in a row with victory over Rangers in next month’s Betfred Cup Final.
Hartson has claimed that the Hoops’ grip on trophies in Scottish football is ‘almost embarrassing’.
“Just ridiculous at the moment”
“Celtic are just ridiculous at the moment with their domination. Nine trophies out of nine is almost embarrassing” he said, as reported by the Scotsman.
Hartson might well be a Celtic legend, and he is entitled to his opinion. However, the Hoops players will surely not feel embarrassed about the number of trophies the team have won in the last few seasons. Indeed, it should be a record that they are proud of.
Team has shown remarkable consistency
It shows a remarkable consistency that the Hoops can win 30 domestic cup ties in a row, as they did in the recent 5-2 win over Hibs. That is a feat that is unlikely to be repeated, and one that the players can take great pride in.
Similarly, there is no need for the Celtic support to feel any less about victories just because the Hoops are constantly winning trophies.
Indeed, every trophy won by the Hoops should be celebrated. Should Celtic win the Betfred Cup, it will be celebrated more than most, as it would be the first final won over bitter rivals Rangers in 10 years.
That game will mean a lot to everyone at Celtic. The Hoops will not want their run of nine trophies in a row ended Rangers.
To people in England perhaps Celtic’s domination of the game in Scotland could be seen as embarrassing. However, that is not an opinion that will be shared by anyone at Celtic Park, and nor should it be.
