The signing of Josip Juranovic at Celtic would be exactly the kind of boost the club needs to start winning back the faith of the supporters.
Celtic fans are looking to fall in love with the Ange Postecoglou era. However, the disdain for the board still remains, with major question marks asked of why several key positions still haven’t been sorted well into the new season.
The main one, of course, being at right-back. Celtic have one option in that area in Anthony Ralston. Absolutely nobody else. We’ve been linked with players such as George Baldock and Aurelio Buta to name a couple. Yet still nobody has come into the club.
The UEFA Champions League has already been sacrificed. Celtic can’t make the same mistake with the Europa League too. And therefore, securing Legia Warsaw’s impressive international Juranovic would be a massive boost for the football club.
Sky reported that Celtic are considering a move for the Croatian international. It’s said he would only cost around £2.5m to secure given he’s into the final year of his contract. It’s fair to say he has all of the attributes and the background to be considered a target Celtic should be prioritising.
Josip Juranovic – the high-profile option Celtic should be signing
Juranovic already knows what it means to be a title-winner. He’s a current champion after securing the Ekstraklasa last season. His influence wasn’t minimal either. He started 25 of the club’s league games last season, bagging eight assists from the right-back position [Transfermarkt].
Rangers’ collapse has given Celtic a massive opportunity
In addition to that, Juranovic is already a full Croatia internationalist. He has bagged an impressive 10 caps for his country stretching back to 2017. He was part of the Croatia team that ended Scotland’s Euro 2020 hopes too.
Interestingly, Juranovic appears to be a versatile talent too. He can play further up as a right-sided midfielder or even slot in as a centre-back. That would give Ange Postecoglou some much-needed depth in other areas too.
This is the complete package. At 25, he isn’t a youthful project who could come good within a few years. He’s a talent ready for the here and now. A player who’s already proven himself in Europe and is ready to make an immediate impact.
And the prospect of signing the Croatian star is certainly exciting the Celtic supporters about what could lie ahead:
