Pundit Kris Boyd doesn’t think Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon will be a happy man after the arrival of Fraser Forster, speaking to Sky Sports News earlier on Monday.

Forster was announced as Neil Lennon’s latest summer signing on Thursday. The 31-year-old was subsequently slotted straight into the manager’s starting eleven for the visit of Hearts on Sunday.

Boyd reckons Gordon will have been hoping to get an extended chance in the team after sitting on the sidelines in support of the injured Scott Bain.

The former Kilmarnock man also believes the situation could rake up resentment for the ‘keeper with regards to a potential move to Chelsea being blocked in 2017.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “I don’t think he’ll be very happy.

“I know time moves on and everything but, when you look back a few years ago and Celtic blocked that move to Chelsea for him, and now all of a sudden he finds himself effectively third choice now.”

Has Gordon been mistreated?

The former Celtic number one will know better than anyone that competition is inherent to modern football, especially at a big club like Celtic.

He is no longer a young prospect who needs first-team action to prove himself. The 36-year-old is in the twilight of his career.

For him to be earning money at and still playing matches for the Hoops is hardly a harsh sentence.

There’s no real drama here beyond players having to work that bit harder to try and prove themselves in matches and on the training pitch.

Gordon will feature on Thursday because of UEFA registration rules and only after that will Lennon have to make a decision about who plays at Ibrox.

If the Scotland international can pull out a brilliant performance in Sweden, he has every chance of doing that.

Having a strong squad is not a negative, regardless of how individuals feel.

As for Boyd’s opinion that the Chelsea saga could be impacting him currently? That’s surely as old news for the goalkeeper as it is for us.
