Read MoreLate-night transfer update has left Celtic supporters' anticipation rising
As Celtic continue to try and strengthen this January, it’s fair to say last night’s update on Jota certainly caught supporters’ attention.
The Daily Record reported that talks were progressing well between the Hoops and Benfica. It’s believed that an agreement is close and that Celtic may very well get their man permanently.
That will be a major boost for the football club and indeed the supporters. Jota has 8 goals and 6 assists to his name this season, so it’s hardly surprising that there’s been a clamour for him to join up for the long-term.
Of course, his progress over the last month has been hampered by injury. His importance to the Celtic cause was only magnified in that period as we struggled without his creativity.
It remains to be seen whether there will be any late interest in the Portuguese starlet. However, it’s clear Celtic are ready to do a deal ASAP.
Celtic showing initiative and supporters are absolutely loving it
When Ange Postecoglou came in the door, he promised a gung-ho style on the park. But the truth is we’re also adopting the same method to the transfer window this winter.
Celtic “close” to Riley McGree signing as brilliant January continues | 67HH Sunday LIVE
Already have the Hoops brought in 4 players to join their cause. A 5th could be on the way in Riley McGree too. It’s certainly already looking like being a productive new year.
Should Celtic also manage to get a deal for Jota over the line? It’s fair to say they’ll be feeling the love of the supporters. Something we certainly weren’t saying 12 months ago.
It would also be a fine start to life for Michael Nicholson as permanent CEO, at least when it comes to his popularity amongst supporters.
Already, we can see exactly the kind of praise he in particular is receiving after this latest report. And whilst the deal has yet to be finalised, the excitement levels are growing. Here’s a look at how some Celtic fans have reacted:
