Celtic manager Neil Lennon’s team selection for Wednesday night’s match against Hamilton will certainly be interesting. The Hoops boss will have to factor in not only the need to pick up the three points, but Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final against Rangers when it comes to the team he selects.
One player who will come into consideration to start against Hamilton is Leigh Griffiths. The Hoops striker has come off the bench in Celtic’s last two fixtures, and looked sharp in both fixtures. He didn’t find the back of the net in either game, although that wasn’t for the want of trying.
A chance to show he should start cup final
However, the Hamilton game looks an ideal one for Griffiths to start for the Hoops. It would be his first start since the 5-2 win over Motherwell in August. Perhaps more importantly, give him a chance to prove to Neil Lennon that he should start the Betfred Cup Final.
At the moment, Odsonne Edouard’s status for the Betfred Cup Final is unknown. We shall no doubt find out nearer the time if he is able to feature in the game. If he can’t though, the Hoops will be looking for another player to be their main striker at Hampden.
Should have chances to find the back of the net
Griffiths would no doubt love to have the opportunity to start that game. That is why the Hamilton fixture seems to be ideal for him. Celtic will be on the attack for most, if not all the fixture. That will presumably lead to Griffiths having a few chances to find the back of the net for the Hoops.
If he scores two goals for example, Neil Lennon will have hard time in leaving him out of his cup final team if Edouard can’t make it.
This is good chance for Griffiths to show that he can play a big part for the Hoops in the weeks ahead, a start against Hamilton would be a good beginning to the month for the player.
