Neil Lennon has revealed that Celtic are trying to sort out Mikael Lustig’s contract one way or another. The veteran right-back’s contract expires in the summer, and he could leave the club on a free transfer.
However, Lennon wants to keep the player, and he has disclosed that talks have begun with Lustig about keeping him at the club.
“I have spoken to him, but not to his representatives. I had good feedback from Mika” Lennon said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“I would like him to stay”
“I would like him to stay. I think he still has a year or two in him.”
It has to be said that Lustig has been like a new player in recent weeks. He deservedly won his place back in the side, and set up Odsonne Edouard’s winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final.
However, it should not be forgotten that Lustig didn’t have the best of seasons overall. He was poor in both visits to Ibrox and was dropped from the side for a while.

It is no surprise that Lennon wants to keep Lustig though. He was brought to the club by Lennon, and the fact that he restored him to the side proves that he rates him.
He is coming towards the end of his career though, and as Lennon says, a one or two-year deal is really all that he can expect to get.
However, it is up to Lustig where he wants to play his football next season. He shall find out his decision sooner rather than later.
