Nine in a row has always been special to Celtic. The Hoops won nine league titles in a row between 1965 and 1974. That is a feat they are look to replicate this season, and at the moment they seem on course to do that. A reason for that is that the Hoops have won their last nine games in all competitions. The 3-1 win over Rennes on Thursday night saw the Hoops make it nine wins on the spin.
That is Celtic’s best run of form since just before Brendan Rodgers left the club in February this year. The current run of results is far more impressive though, as it includes two wins over Lazio.
Credit has to be given to manager and players
When you consider how poorly Celtic played in their 2-0 loss to Livingston before the run of victories, it is perhaps a bit surprising that Celtic managed to put together such a consistent run of form. Credit for that has to be given to Neil Lennon and the Celtic players.
In the nine game run the Hoops have scored 30 goals, whilst conceding just five, and two of those were against Lazio. That shows how vital a stable defence has been to Celtic’s success so far this season.
Loanee has chipped in with some vital goals
As for the goals, Hoops loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi scored six goals in the nine games, which is all the more impressive when you consider that he only played in seven of the fixtures.
There should be no letting up from Celtic now though that they have made it nine in a row. The goal should be for the Hoops to win at least 12 games in a row. That would mean that Celtic have defeated both Ross County and Hamilton and won the Betfred Cup Final.
There is no reason why Celtic shouldn’t achieve that. The players are certainly good enough to do so. The current Celtic side have done it all in domestic football in the last three years, and now they are doing the same in Europe. That is what makes this current run of nine wins in a row so impressive.
