Marian Shved’s set-piece delivery could be a weapon for Celtic

It’s fair to say that Marian Shved has not got off to a lightning start in the Hoops.

The new Ukrainian addition has appeared in Celtic’s two most recent pre-season friendlies – the 2-1 win over Wiener and the 0-0 draw against St. Gallen. Big things were expected of Shved almost instantly given the tremendous form he enjoyed in the second-half of last season for Karpaty Lviv.

However, the winger looks like he may take a bit of time to settle in to his new surroundings. He’s looked a little tired and unsure thus far but that doesn’t look like nothing a bit of time won’t fix.

Shved possesses a terrific delivery

One positive thing that has emerged from the 21-year-old’s showings so far is his set-piece delivery. Shved took a number of corners in Switzerland on Tuesday night and the majority of them were whipped into dangerous areas.

Celtic haven’t really possessed a good set-piece taker since Stuart Armstrong departed the club last summer. The Southampton man regularly assisted goals from dead-ball situations during his time at the club and it would be nice to see Shved do likewise.

With the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Kristoffer Ajer and new signing Christopher Jullien now among our ranks – we possess an immense aerial presence. If Shved can continue to provide the goods, we should have a fair few set-piece goals to celebrate.
