Mark Guidi’s Sean Dyche shout for Celtic is absurd

Mark Guidi has named Sean Dyche as a contender for the Celtic job…

This is a wild shout. On almost every front possible, the club couldn’t pick a worse fit to replace Martin O’Neill.

The Irishman can’t be ruled out yet, with Celtic taking a vital step towards a Scottish Premiership title that could spawn an irresistible clamour for a permanent job on Saturday.

Guidi recognises this, but to name Dyche as an alternative is spectacularly off the mark.

Mark Guidi’s Sean Dyche shout for Celtic

Going over potential alternatives to O’Neill on the Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said: “[Jens Berthel] Askou’s on the radar.

“Askou would, if he wants to be, I think Celtic would draw up a shortlist and Askou would be interviewed.

“Robbie Keane – there’s obviously links to Dermot Desmond there, to Ireland, et cetera.

“Sean Dyche has got a good body of work as well and might fancy something different.

“Because if you look at Sean Dyche’s CV, every job he’s had it’s been bottom six. Fighting relegation, fighting relegation, fighting relegation.

“This would be a chance to go and build something to win titles on the front foot, which would be a pleasant change for him, I’m sure.”

Since being controversially sacked by Burnley, Dyche has done a solid but unremarkable job at Everton before lasting just five months at Nottingham Forest, playing a style of football that simply would not translate to Celtic.

Not only that, but he has also alienated fans of both clubs with media comments that misrepresented supporters and undersold the clubs’ respective potentials.

He loves excuses. Since being sacked by Forest last month, he has already lectured their fans for being “keyboard warriors”, telling them they’ve had “one good season in 30-odd” and blaming them for his sacking.

He has also slated the players’ physical output in training within a month of leaving the club, bemoaning the ‘modern player’. Everyone’s fault but his. Avoid.

Mark Guidi on Celtic boss Martin O’Neill

Guidi’s take on O’Neill’s position is likely to be more popular with Celtic fans. He said: “You go back four months, when they effectively sacked Martin O’Neill, a manager who’d won seven games out of eight…

“Beaten Rangers in a cup semi-final, gone to Feyenoord and won, and kept five clean sheets. And they effectively sacked him. He got them into a cup final!

“If he wins the league again, and you do not offer him the chance to stay on, you’re effectively sacking him again.

“You’re sacking a title-winning manager, who’s produced that! By the way, I think the odds are stacked against Celtic in winning it. However, you can’t make that same mistake again.”
