Neil Lennon admits he misses large away support at Glasgow derby

Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon has admitted he misses the large away following both sides used to bring to the fixture.

For this season, the number of away fans has been reduced for around 7,000 to less than 1,000 after both sides reduced the away allocations. Lennon believes this has undeniably had an impact on the atmosphere of the fixture.

“There being so few away fans there means it loses a bit but that’s not my decision” Lennon admitted to the Scottish Sun.

Celtic fans won’t necessarily agree with Lennon’s words. You would imagine that some Hoops fans are pleased that the number of Rangers fans has been dramatically reduced.

It could also be argued that the lack of away fans has played a part in both of the games between the sides so far this season.

Both sides have recorded emphatic home victories, far more convincing than the 1-0 scorelines have indicated.

Therefore, Celtic will be hoping to take advantage of the huge support they will have at the game. However, it is what happens on the pitch that is most important.

The fans can encourage the players, but they can’t do anything more than that.

Perhaps in the future, more away fans will be allowed at the Glasgow derby. Neil Lennon has indicated he would like to see that. Would the fans like to see it? That is most likely to be ‘no’.
